Casa de Fruita
Casa de Fruta is located on Pacheco Pass Highway (highway 152) in California near the town of Hollister. As we drive out to places like Yosemite, it's often a stop along the way (okay - I admit it - we usually stop because we need a restroom more than anything else). The actual store is really a collection of stores which started as a fruit stand back in the '40s. It's now a pretty expansive place with a gas station, motel, restaurants and a huge selection of all sorts of food such as nuts, fruits, etc.
My reason for returning is the collection of old farm equipment that is lined up on an old dirt road along the back of the property. You're free to walk around all you like. I find it a great place to go in the morning and can spend hours photographing the collections of old cars and farm machinery - with every piece covered in rust and peeling paint.

Gnarly Gears
This really is the way these gears look. They are covered in mold - colorful mold - and they are part of some old farm machinery that was donated to the "collection" at Casa de Fruita. I put "collection" in quotes because there are a large number of old machinery items at Casa de Fruita and most sort of look like they were put along a walk-way or path and just left there. Which, for myself anyway, is most of the charm. They sit there - rusting - and collecting mold - and become more interesting.
