Bodie State Park - Lottie Johl House
The Lottie Johl House is definitely one of the more interesting houses to visit. Like almost all visitors to the park, I was limited to taking photographs through the windows for all my previous trips. For the photography workshop I set up at the end of September in 2012, however, this was one of the houses I most wanted to photograph from the inside. We carefully planned our trip to coincide with when the rising sun would just start to enter the house as there were some side rooms where I wanted to capture that light as it came into the room.
Lottie Johl herself is also an interesting character from the Bodie history. While she started her career in the red light district she went on to marry a local butcher and became known for her painting.
The stuff inside this house is amazing. Everywhere you turn there is something interesting to photograph. Of course, as in all the places we were allowed inside, the caution was not to touch or disturb anything.
