Bodie State Park - Wheaton and Hollis Hotel - Guest Room
For many years, this hotel was referred to as "The Bodie Hotel". When we visited, however, our guide for the day told us they recently determined it was actually called the Wheaton and Hollis Hotel. Like most of the buildings in Bodie, it isn't open to the public or included in the daily tours. Our photography workshop provided access to almost anywhere, however, and we came here near the end of the morning since the building is oriented nearly parallel to the sun and the rooms are mostly lit by ambient light only.
I'd photographed this particular room with the toys on the table from the outside but never found the image worked very well from that vantage point. With the opportunity to set up a tripod inside and capture several images which were later combined in Photomatix, I was able to keep the details in the room and still show the buildings outside the window.
