Bodie State Park - Metzger House
This room is in the middle of the Metzger House and cannot be seen from the outside. As a result, it seems to have been used as a dump, without much concern for what was put in it. Throughout the park, there has been an effort to try to place items from early in Bodie's history. You can see a box in the lower left labeled "Kraft Perfect" that is probably closer to 1960 and certainly not from 1860. I also remember, while walking around in that room, there was a stack of old Life magazines that were decaying into a lump.
So with all this trash you might ask - why on earth did you take a photograph? Well, for me, the ambient light - that orange glow that sneaks in through the cracks in the walls and around the doors - that made this a fascinating study of a room in decay. The ceiling cover ripped and falling down, the old bedspring on the side and the peeling wall paper. I may be strange but I love stuff like this.
