Abstracts and Textures
I've always been a fan of "textures". I remember taking a black and white photograph of an old gasoline pump in the town where I grew up (Concord, MA). It was on the side of the road near an old farm and it probably was put in for the local farmers at one time. I liked the rust and peeling paint and took a close up photograph of the side with just the peeling paint. My art teacher wasn't that impressed but I wasn't deterred. I still enjoy photographing "textures".

Burning Car
One day, we took a drive down to Santa Cruz and then headed up highway 1. Not too far out of Santa Cruz, we came upon this poor fellow standing by the side of his car which was on fire. There was nothing we could do. It was already engulfed in flames. He seemed to have pulled his belongings from the car - so we just stood there - watching it burn. And then I remembered I had my camera with me...
